Accessibility

Dementia Inclusive Library

MCDL is committed to inclusive access to Library resources and engaged participation by all Library patrons. A diagnosis of memory loss impacts both the individual and their care partners, but Library use can and should continue. As part of our Strategic Plan, MCDL is committed to providing Dementia-Inclusive resources to allow for continued participation in library activities, and resources for maintaining the skills and interests of all involved in the dementia-health experience.
MCDL staff received training through the Ohio Department of Cognitive Health to earn the Dementia Inclusive Library designation.

Memory Café at Buckeye Library is an opportunity for those living with memory loss and their care partners to share stories, socialize, take part in fun activities and enjoy light refreshments. No registration is required, check the events calendar for upcoming sessions.

Memory Kits are available for check out at all MCDL locations.

  • Memory Care Kits include a support book for caregivers, adult picture book, music CD and activities. Kits are designed for anyone caring for an individual experiencing memory loss.
  • Stay Sharp Kits are designed for use with individuals who are experiencing memory loss or cognitive issues related to dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and other memory disorders. They’re also great for anyone who wants to improve their short-term memory and overall mental speed. Kits are themed and include a book, puzzles or card games. They are intended to spark conversation and stimulate brain activity. The activities encourage multi-generational participation to complete together.

  • Reading2Connect Kits feature modified books that compensate for a reader's visual or cognitive deficits while maintaining the integrity of the writing. Kits are designed for use in congregate care settings and contain multiple copies of the same book for group reading. Patrons may check out individual books from the display at their library for use at home. The titles help aging adults remember, express themselves, and connect with others.
