How do I get a library card?

To be eligible for a MCDL library card, an individual must be a permanent resident, own property, attend school, or commute to work in the state of Ohio. A valid photo ID without the current address must be accompanied by personal mail dated within four weeks of application.

For minors (under 18) a parent or guardian must sign. All applicants must be present.

MCDL offers several library card options. With the exception of Wifi Hotspots and the Tools and Tech collection, MCDL is a fine free library. Accounts can become blocked at $10.00 in fines/fees, when 50 items are checked out, or when 25 items become overdue.

An online application is now available.

MCDL offers additional card types to fit your borrowing needs:

Regular – provides full borrowing privileges, subject to fines and fees. 50 item limit. Some special collection restrictions may apply.

Ecard - Emedia only. No physical material can be checked out. Apply for an MCDL eCard

3 for ME card - 11 and under. Three children’s books can be checked out. No parental ID/signature is required.

Teen card - children ages 12-17. Three books can be checked out. No parental ID/signature required.

Educator card - In addition to a regular account. 100 item limit with a longer loan period. Some material restrictions apply. educators may apply for an Educator Card at a circulation desk or apply via our online form.

Temp Card - 18 and over who do not meet the requirements to receive a regular card. Limit of three items. Some material restrictions apply. Photo ID required. 6 month expiration.

Outreach - Provides full borrowing privileges, subject to fines and fees. 50 item limit. 5 week loan period. Some special collection restrictions may apply. For additional information, visit https://www.mcdl.info/outreach.

What is a PIN/Password and how does it work?

Your PIN/Password is the last 4 digits of your phone number unless you have chosen a different one.

To change PIN/Password, go to My Account or visit any of our branch locations where staff can reset your password at your request.

How do I request library materials?

You can request materials through the library catalog, or a staff member can assist you in person or on the phone. Please have your library card number ready.

Where can I return my materials?

You can return items at any MCDL location 24/7 or any CLEVNET library. Items may also be returned at both Medina Buehler's locations in the bookdrop near the Customer Service Desk.

How do I renew my library material?

While some materials may not be renewable, most library material automatically renews the day before the due date. If an item cannot be renewed, you will receive a courtesy notice the day before it is due.

How many times can I renew my material?

With the exception of MCDL’s special collections, items may renew five times. Other CLEVNET libraries renewal policies will follow their items. Items that have requests on them will not renew.

What are MCDL’s overdue fines?

MCDL is a fine free library. View our Fines and Fees policy. The exceptions are Wi-Fi Hotspots and items from the Tools and Tech collection which incur a $5.00 per day fine/maximum $35.00.

How can I pay my library fine/fee?

Payments may be made online at My Account. Library fees can also be paid at any MCDL location.

What does it mean if my card is expired?

MCDL cards expire every five years. This allows the library to keep account information updated. You can renew your account by calling or visiting your local branch or via our online form.

How do I update my personal information?

Some information can be updated on My Account or via our online form. You can also call or visit any branch to update your account. Please have your account number available.

What do I do if my card is lost or stolen?

Please notify the library immediately by calling 330-725-0588. You are responsible for all items/charges on your account.

How do I reserve a meeting room?

Reserve MCDL meeting rooms online.

Can I register to vote at the library?

Voter registration forms and absentee ballot applications are available online and at all MCDL locations. mcdl.info/Vote

Does the library have computers available for internet and word processing, and does the library have Wi-Fi?

Computers at each of our locations are equipped with internet access and Microsoft Office 2016. Free Wi-Fi service is available at all of our branches.

Does the library have printers/copiers and FAX capabilities?

All branches have copy, print, FAX and scan capabilities. mcdl.info/Papercut
