I’d like to send a big thank you to everyone who took our Community Use Survey. We received more than 1,700 responses, which gave us great feedback to guide our actions this summer and beyond. We heard an urgent need to reopen meeting rooms and return to in-person programming as soon as conditions allow. We heard from patrons who do not want to wear a mask while in the library. I understand this perspective. As more people are vaccinated, active COVID cases decrease, and state health orders permit, we will end this requirement. As of the writing of this article, we aren’t quite there yet. We also heard from many patrons who feel COVID conditions are preventing them from coming to the library buildings. Please be assured that we are continuing with recommended practices – frequent handwashing, proper air circulation and purification, and periodic cleaning of high-touch surfaces. These practices will not be relaxed any time soon. For those who prefer to receive contact-free services like Anytime Lockers, Curbside Service, and virtual events and reference, we will offer these for the foreseeable future. Thanks to CDC recommendations released in April, we updated our returns process and opened the drive-up book drops at Medina and Brunswick Libraries to 24/7 service. Finally, patrons discovered, or re-discovered, digital library materials during the pandemic. We will continue expanding eMedia options and offer virtual help to anyone needing assistance with them. Thank you, again, to all who completed the survey. I appreciate your interest in making your libraries the resource you need even in these quickly changing times.
