MCDL News & Notes Winter StoryWalk® StoryWalk® is a partnership between MCDL and: • Medina County Park District, Carolyn Ludwig Mugrage Park, 4985 Windfall Rd., Medina • Medina City Schools, Northrop Elementary, 950 E. Reagan Pkwy., Medina It promotes literacy, physical activity, and spending time together as a family. Each season brings a new story. Watch for A Polar Bear in the Snow by Mac Barnett on Dec. 1. Snuggle Up & Read Dec. 1-29 - Create a cozy evening for children in need by donating new books and pajamas at any MCDL location. Volunteers will package PJs with a book, then distribute to Medina County children. Director’s Notes by Julianne Bedel Stronger Together One of the reasons I love working in a public library is the sense of cooperation and partnership. At MCDL, improving quality of life is our mission. We have a rich tradition of partnering with community groups to achieve common goals. Whether we’re working with the Juvenile Detention Center, Park District, Feeding Medina County, or local schools, we strive for the very best outcomes. We love hearing from groups or agencies wanting to develop new ways of working together. Helping each other extend our reach makes us all more effective. This spirit of partnership extends to cooperative efforts with other libraries. The best example of this is our CLEVNET membership. CLEVNET was launched by Cleveland Public Library in 1982 as a regional bibliographic database. What started as an automation project for card cataloging became an opportunity for libraries to share resources. MCDL joined in 1985 and was part of the group’s growth. Forty years later, CLEVNET has 47 member libraries across 12 counties. CLEVNET libraries share cataloging services, system administration, computer equipment, professional support, and digital and physical collections with partner libraries. This means MCDL patrons have access to more than 12 million items! In May, economic analysts Howard Fleeter & Associates conducted a study to determine the value of CLEVNET membership. Simply put, for every dollar MCDL invests in the CLEVNET partnership, our patrons receive $19.00 in services and resources. I am fortunate to work in Medina County where partnership and collaboration are the standard. Beyond our county, that alliance continues through the benefits of CLEVNET. United through partnerships; we’re stronger together. Tax Forms MCDL offers federal and state tax forms to the public for distribution or copying. City tax forms vary by location. Use MCDL’s public computers, Wi-Fi, and printers to access tax forms and publications online. Download and print your own at mcdl.info/Tax. 4
