Donation purpose (optional)

Libraries are the great equalizer. Libraries don’t judge. Libraries work hard to make your community a better place. Your contribution is more than a donation; it is teaching children the literacy skills they need to succeed in school; it is giving a troubled teen a place to feel welcome; it is the excitement of an elderly resident knowing a volunteer will bring books and sit and visit for a while.

$25 buys a colorful picture book for MCDL staff to share at storytimes in the library or during visits to Head Start preschools.

$100 purchases books for the Juvenile Detention Center book club, organized by MCDL’s Teen Librarians.

$250 allows for one session of GED testing for up to 12 students, as MCDL is the only GED testing site in Medina County.

Family History & Learning Center

Donations have impact. In late 2019 MCDL opened the Virginia Wheeler Martin Family History and Learning Center thanks to a $2.4 million donation from its namesake.

Funds to digitally preserve the library’s local history and genealogy projects, newspapers, memorabilia and family records are welcome and appreciated. Donations of materials related to Medina County history may be considered for inclusion in the Family History & Learning Center collection. Donations of local high school yearbooks, city directories, histories of local organizations or churches, and other like items are greatly appreciated.

Recognition

Be recognized for your generosity at MCDL.

Donor Wall of Recognition

Benefactors can be featured on library donor walls honoring the names of individuals, families or businesses who support the library. Donor plaques make an excellent memorial to a loved one who enjoyed books or was a proponent of lifelong learning. Thousands of library visitors, for years to come, will recognize your loved one, your family, or your business as an advocate of literacy.

Donor wall plaques are available in three sizes and vary greatly in design by library location.

MCDL is one of the largest, most recognized and valued agencies in Medina County. Make our history of community support part of your legacy through a gift from your estate. MCDL was founded in 1907 with personal funds form Franklin Sylvester, a successful farmer and businessman. Since then, private funds have played a role in helping MCDL exceed expectations and achieve library excellence.

Corporate Support

Support from individuals and the business community are vital to MCDL’s mission of “enriching life in our community with outstanding and innovative library services for all.” We can’t do it without the many partnerships, private donations and grants that help fund all the extras we provide the community.

Sponsorships
Businesses, service groups and individuals have sponsored everything from the Summer Reading Game to special storytimes and collections of books for the libraries.

Partnerships
Cost-sharing is an effective way to make great things happen in Medina County by partnering with other agencies or the business community. A great example of this is MCDL’s partnership with the Medina County Parks. Storywalk, a “read while you walk” path at Carolyn Ludwig Mugrage Park utilizes the park’s facilities and display stands while MCDL staff prepare the book each season. Also, Nature Discovery Packs for children and families are now available at MCDL locations complete with themed books and gear purchased by the library, complemented with parks department accessories.

In-Kind Donations
When your business donates treats to a children’s event at the library or free coupons for leisure activities like bowling or go-cart rides to the Teen Summer Reading Game, you are advertising to a target audience that appreciates your commitment to community and may drive customer loyalty.

Grants
MCDL is constantly seeking grants to fund special events, new services and adding to our collection. By seeking corporate foundation and private grant funds, we go outside the immediate community for funding. Being recognized with substantial grant funding to make our innovative ideas a reality is very rewarding and costs local taxpayers nothing!
